Hey, traveller! If you've just landed at Balice Airport, you've probably already felt that special atmosphere. Kraków welcomes you, and the air is filled with a mix of pretzel scents, history and the promise of an unforgettable adventure. Most tourists head straight to the Main Market Square to tick off the Cloth Hall, St. Mary's Basilica and the Wawel Dragon. And rightly so – these are absolute classics that you simply must see!
But what if I told you that the real magic begins where the standard tour route ends? What if the key to discovering the soul of Małopolska is not a tram ticket, but car keys that give you absolute freedom?
At YourRent, we believe that travelling is about more than just ticking boxes on a map. It's about freedom of choice, spontaneous turns down side roads and discovering places you won't find in any ordinary guidebook. That's exactly why we're here. Not in the terminal itself, where there's always a rush, but just nearby. Our shuttle bus is already waiting to take you comfortably to where your real adventure begins. No stress, no queues – just a smile and a map full of possibilities.
Your starting point in Małopolska – how it works at our rental.
Before we hit the road to the most beautiful corners of the region, let's make one thing clear: renting a car doesn't have to be complicated. Forget nervously hunting for an office in the airport crowd.
The process is simple and pleasant:
- You land at Kraków-Balice (KRK)
Pick up your luggage, take a deep breath. - You meet our driver
They'll be waiting at the agreed spot, with a smile. No worries. - You board our comfortable shuttle bus
In just a few minutes, without any effort on your part, we'll take you to our base. - You collect the keys
At our office, paperwork is kept to a minimum. Choose the car that best fits your plan – a nimble city car for weaving through town, a spacious SUV that tackles mountain switchbacks with ease, or maybe a 9-seater minibus for a whole group of friends? The choice is yours.
Got the keys? Great. All of Małopolska is yours to explore. Now the best part – where to go?
A road trip itinerary: Małopolska on four wheels
Here are a few suggestions that will make your trip far more than just a visit to Kraków. These are ready-made ideas for day trips (or multi-day adventures) that are only possible by car.
Route 1: Trail of the Eagles' Nests – the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland
Buckle up in your SUV, because we're heading to the Jura! It's a magical land of white limestone rocks, mysterious caves and, above all, majestic medieval castles known as the Eagles' Nests.
Ojców National Park (approx. 30 min from Kraków)
Your first stop. Leave the car in the car park and stroll through the Prądnik Valley. See the Kraków Gate, Hercules' Club rock formation and climb up to Ojców Castle. The freedom that a car gives you means you can spend two hours here or the whole day – with no need to check the bus timetable.
Pieskowa Skała Castle (another 15 min drive)
A beautifully restored castle towering over the valley. The views are breathtaking, and the drive itself is pure pleasure.
Ogrodzieniec Castle in Podzamcze (approx. 1h from Pieskowa Skała)
A true gem on the trail. This is no tame little castle – it's a mighty, romantic ruin that will fire your imagination. Scenery straight out of "The Witcher" (and in fact, series scenes were filmed here!). With a car, you can stay until sunset, which is absolutely magical.
Route 2: In search of peace and colour – Tyniec and Zalipie
Fancy something more peaceful? Here you go.
Tyniec Benedictine Abbey (approx. 25 min from Kraków city centre)
Perched on a rock above the Vistula, the abbey is an oasis of calm. You can drive there easily by car, avoiding city traffic if you take the riverside road. Visit the monastery, pick up products made by the monks and simply breathe.
Zalipie – the Painted Village (approx. 1.5h from Tyniec)
Now this is truly unique! Zalipie is a village where almost every house, barn and even doghouse is decorated with gorgeous, colourful flowers. It's a living museum of folk art. Getting there by public transport is a nightmare. By car – pure pleasure. You can roam freely around the village, stop whenever you like, take photos and soak up the authentic atmosphere. It's an experience you'll remember for a long time.
Route 3: Adventure for the whole crew – the Beskids and Pieniny in a 9-seater minibus
Travelling in a larger group? Family with kids? A bunch of friends? Hire a 9-seater minibus and head for the mountains! Fuel costs are shared between everyone, and the fun is outstanding.
Beskids Loop
From Kraków, head south towards Myślenice, then further into the Beskid Wyspowy or Beskid Makowski. You can conquer Luboń Wielki, drive through the scenic Krowiarki Pass and arrive in Zawoja at the foot of Babia Góra.
Pieniny and the Dunajec River Gorge rafting
This is a full-day proposal. Drive to Sromowce Wyżne, leave the minibus in the car park and set off on a traditional raft trip through the Dunajec Gorge. Unforgettable! After the rafting, there's no need to wait for a bus – your minibus will be waiting in Szczawnica, ready to continue. How about lunch at one of the regional inns in Krościenko?
A few practical tips from YourRent
Parking in Kraków
The city centre is covered by a Paid Parking Zone. If you're planning to visit the Market Square or Kazimierz, it's best to leave the car at one of the peripheral car parks and hop on a tram. Save the car for trips out of the city.
Motorway A4
Remember that the A4 section between Kraków and Katowice is a toll road.
Kraków is a wonderful city, but it's also the perfect base for excursions. With keys from our rental in your pocket, you're no longer just a tourist. You're an explorer. You're the director of your own journey.
So... what's your plan? Browse our fleet on the website and book the car that will take you on the trip of a lifetime. Małopolska is waiting!
