Car Rental at Malaga Airport — What Documents Do You Need?

To pick up your car at YourRent, prepare three things: a driver’s license, an ID card or passport, and a physical payment card in the name of the main driver. Each serves a specific purpose, so it’s best to verify these before heading to the airport.

Driver’s License — Remember the Required Experience

Simply having a driver’s license isn’t enough. At YourRent, we require drivers to have held their license for at least 12 months. Age also matters — the standard minimum age is 21, while drivers aged 19–20 can rent a car for an additional young driver fee.

Before traveling, make sure you have the physical document with you. Don’t leave it at home just because you have a photo of it on your phone.

ID Card or Passport

To verify your identity, you’ll need an ID card or passport. Check that the document is valid and easily accessible—preferably in a place you can quickly reach right after landing.

This is a small detail easy to overlook when your mind is already on the beach, hotel, and the plan for the first trip. Without all required documents, car pickup can become complicated.

Payment Card in the Name of the Main Driver

The third necessary item is a physical payment card issued in the name of the main driver. Important: a card belonging to someone who is not listed as the main driver does not meet this requirement.

Don’t assume that payment by phone or watch will be sufficient. YourRent does not accept contactless payments via phone or watch, nor cash. Bring your physical card with you.

Can You Show Documents on Your Phone?

It’s safest to prepare physical documents required at pickup. At YourRent, you need to present a physical driver’s license and a physical payment card in the main driver’s name. Also have your ID card or passport with you.

Photos of documents saved in your gallery may seem convenient but do not replace the required original document. Similarly, payment by phone or watch will not substitute a physical card.

Before you leave, run a simple check: make sure all three items are in your wallet or carry-on bag. It’s better to spend a minute on this at home than scramble for solutions at the pickup desk.

Debit Card, Credit Card, and Cash — What You Need to Know

When renting a car, it’s easy to confuse two things: having a payment card and the rules for accepting it. At YourRent, we require a physical card in the name of the main driver. We do not accept cash or payments made by phone or watch.

We do not have confirmed detailed rules for all types of cards, so do not assume every debit or credit card will be suitable. If you have any doubts about your card, it’s best to clarify them before your trip.

Also remember that a security deposit may be required for the rental. Its amount depends on the car class and the chosen insurance package. The deposit is a hold on funds on your card, not a standard rental charge.

How Old Do You Have to Be to Rent a Car?

At YourRent, the standard minimum driver’s age is 21. Drivers aged 19–20 can also rent a car but must pay an additional young driver fee.

Regardless of age, at least 12 months of driving experience is required. If you’re traveling with someone else who will also drive, check their requirements before pickup.

Don’t leave this to the last minute. If you’re still planning your reservation, consider your driver’s age and experience when choosing a vehicle.

How to Prepare for Car Pickup at Malaga Airport?

Documents are essential, but a few simple steps will make the start of your journey smoother.

  • Check your documents: a physical driver’s license, ID card or passport, and a physical payment card in the name of the main driver.

  • Verify your age and driving experience: minimum 21 years old under standard conditions or 19–20 with an extra young driver fee; driving license held for at least 12 months.

  • Don’t rely on contactless payments by phone or watch: bring a physical card.

  • Plan your pickup after arrival: check in advance the location and car pickup procedure.

If you’re arriving at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP), details are available on the car rental at Malaga Airport page. This lets you check the pickup information ahead of time and better plan your route.
